New Zealand Hip Hop Dancers Compete for Coveted World
Spots
On April 15– 18 over 500 dancers from
around the country will compete for a chance to represent
New Zealand at the world competition.
There have been six regional competitions around the country that have selected the finalists who will compete at the Street Dance New Zealand Hip Hop National Competition. Only the top three from each division will get the opportunity to represent New Zealand on the world stage at the World Hip Hop Championships held in San Diego in August.
For the first time the competition will also include All Style Battle qualifiers. This year Street Dance NZ will be having 1 on 1 Breaking, 1 on 1 Popping and 2 on 2 All Style battles, sending the best over to San Diego as the New Zealand representatives for the Worlds battles. Qualifiers for this will be happening on Thursday 16th starting at 2.30pm.
Another special feature is the Mega schools competition where high school students exhibit their skill and creativity on Friday 17th April at 6pm in a program that will also feature the world Mega Crew qualifiers
STREET DANCE NZ has been running this prestigious
hip-hop dance competition for 8 years and it is clear that
it has had a major impact in both the dance and wider
community, with this event and the many projects supported
by SDNZ being the catalyst that has encouraged many of our
youth strive to better themselves and succeed.
