Competitor Withdrawn from Raw Comedy Quest
For the first time in the Wellington Raw Comedy Quest, a performer has stepped down from competing due to opportunities on the pro-comedy circuit. Alice Brine will be opening for Anchorman star David Koechner, 8pm Sunday 19th April at VKs Comedy Bar, and as such it has been decided by the Raw Comedy Quest producers to withdraw her from the final of the open mic comedy competition.
While the Raw Comedy Quest is open to any performer who has been performing less than two years, an exception was made due to Alice’s rapid rise on the circuit.
“I am sad to withdraw, it is such a fun competition and I was really enjoying it. However I am excited to keep moving forward in comedy, I have so many awesome opportunities opening up to me, I can’t complain too much! Good luck to everyone else.” - Alice Brine
This year’s competition has been the toughest yet. Two extra heats were added to accommodate the number of performers and the final at San Fran on Thursday 23rd April is set to sell out. Replacing Alice will be Craig Savage, who the judges agreed was the clear next choice.
“It was a tough call, but missing out on the Raw Quest does free Alice to take advantage of the chance to gig with a Hollywood star, and continue to pursue her career as a professional comedian. A similar situation happened with Urzila Carlson when she started, I think it’s a great sign of the strength of the Wellington and NZ comedy scene that opportunities like this are available.” - Jerome Chandrahasen, producer, Wellington Raw Comedy Quest
The Raw Comedy Quest is the country’s only open mic comedy competition. It has helped launch the careers of performers including star of What We Do in the Shadows Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, and James Nokise who returned recently from performing his solo show in New York.
