Best of the Billys, hosted by Ben Burley

New Zealand Comedy Trust & Skycity Theatre presents Best of the Billys, hosted by Ben Burley

Best Of The Billys showcases the incredible talents of some of the previous winners of the Billy T Award as they grace the stage of SKYCITY Theatre on Sunday 3 May at 7pm.

The Billy T Award is named in honour of legendary comedian Billy T James and recognises up-and-coming comedians with outstanding potential to take their comedy career to the next level.

Ben Hurley (7 Days) hosts this hilarious celebration of stand-up comedy, where past winners of the award will lay down some fresh kiwi comedy. A winner of the Billy T in 2004, he also won the The FRED Award in 2008. Ben is joined by:

Rose Matafeo: 15-year olds don’t usually win comedy awards, but Rose Matafeo is exceptional. Six years on, the It-girl of New Zealand comedy has a legion of fans thanks to her quirky and original style, and has a Billy T Award to boot. You’ll have also seen her starring in TV3’s Jono and Ben & on 7 Days.

Cori Gonzalez-Macuer: (What We Do in the Shadows) joins the line-up bringing his dry humour with him. While he claims to be “average”, his “ultra-laid-back wit” (tvnz.co.nz) begs to differ.

Guy Montgomery: Winner of the 2014 Billy T Award, Guy Montgomery, will have you in stitches with his handling of language and his absurd free-flow style. Gather & Hunt says, “He’s stupendous, he’s a masterpiece”, and we’re inclined to agree with them. “Made me laugh so hard beer shot out my nose” – Dominion Post.

Nick Gibb: Winner of the Billy T in 2011, this sketch comedian turned stand-up brings a unique mix of absurdist ideas and personal anecdotes to the stage.

Rhys Mathewson: (Best Bits) is the youngest comedian to ever win the Billy T Award. Best known for his self-deprecating sense of humour, he rips up the stage with his incredible ability to spin a story.

These Billy T Award winners are guaranteed to put on a high-energy comedy show, so grab people you like and join us for this kick-arse kiwi stand-up showcase.
