VISIT: EXHIBITIONS

There is a vast array of dynamic, multi-media exhibitions happening at Studio One Toi Tū until the 21 May. Gallery One hosts, ‘N’ostos (Nostalgia)’ by Louise Williams, consisting of mixed-media works treating NZ-made vintage blankets from the 1950s, to speak to aspects of New Zealand’s cultural landscape. Next door in Gallery Two is a new series of delicate ink and watercolour paintings from Yi Peh Loh, inspired by time spent working at an olive grove. Gallery Three hosts ‘Lush’ by Grace Wright, a series of dynamic, sensually flowing, abstract paintings. Lastly, in Gallery Four; ‘In Stitches’ by Amanda Molloy - a ten-year project inspired by a 1954 painting by Milan Mrkusich, the works are hand stitched with wool onto a synthetic mesh. They represent a modernist slant on the traditional ‘picture’ tapestry, and are a celebration of shape and colour.
