Where Do Green Party Stand on Three-Way Marriage?
Family First NZ is calling on the Green Party to declare their policy on three-way marriages and polygamy in light of the UK Green Party leader declaring that they are open to consultation on legalising ‘marriages’ involving three or more people.
“The Greens in NZ worked hard to minimise the debate around opening up ‘marriage’ to any number of ‘loving adults’, so that NZ’ers would not see the true consequences of weakening the definition of marriage as one man and one woman. However, our prediction of a slippery slope is unfortunately fast becoming a reality. The Greens, and especially the potential new male co-leader, need to declare where they stand on this issue,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ.
“As we argued, if marriage is redefined once, what is to stop it being redefined again? Allowing only same-sex marriage on the basis of love and human rights and so-called equality would then open the door for those arguing for polygamous and group marriage. Why would discrimination against these loving adults be ok? Group marriage may be illegal now, but it wasn’t that long ago that same-sex ‘marriage’ was also unheard of.”
During the debate on redefining marriage in 2013, Family First produced evidence that once the definition of marriage was weakened, there would be strong lobbying by groups to further define ‘marriage’.
“In fact, a former Dutch MP who was behind the first same-sex marriage legislation in the world, and brought to NZ by supporters of the same-sex marriage bill to make a submission to the Select Committee, admitted that group marriages of three or more people is the next step,” says Mr McCoskrie.
“NZ’ers deserve to know just how much the politicians are willing to allow the definition of marriage to be manipulated.”
