Atlantis Crowned the Queen in South Australia

Kiwi galloper Atlantis Dream (NZ) (Elusive City) beat a high-class field of fillies and mares in the A$175,000 Group 2 Hughes Chauffeured Limosines Queen of The South Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Winning on debut as a three-year-old, the now six-years-old Atlantis Dream has won six of her 14 starts. Trained by Darren Weir, she has only raced up to 1600m, finishing second in her last start at Flemington.

“It was an excellent win,” commented Weir. “She is a great, tough mare who has had a lot of soundness issues so it was nice to get a stakes win with her.

“It wasn’t ideal coming from the back of the field but luckily Morphettville is a well-spaced track so it gave her a chance to balance up and run on."

“It was a very courageous effort coming from near last in a track record time,” commented Marsh. “We thought she would be up against it a bit given the talent in the race and being a first starter having drawn a wide gate. I was over the moon with her, it was a super effort.

“We are talking at the moment as to where to next for her, but we will send her to the paddock for now and she will return for the three-year-old races and probably look towards the 1000 Guineas.”
