Hon. Maggie Barry speaks to Arts Wellington members

What: Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Hon. Maggie Barry to speak at an Arts Wellington forum.

Where: Hospitality Suite, St James Theatre, Wellington

The Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Hon. Maggie Barry will be the guest speaker at an Arts Wellington Strategic Forum, at the St James Theatre on 19 June.

This Forum will look at central government as a partner to the arts in Wellington. The Minister will address members of Arts Wellington to share her vision for the arts in greater Wellington, and to answer the question posed by the Arts Wellington board– “what can central government do to assist local government in securing the future value of the arts in Wellington?”

The Chair of Arts Wellington, Chris O’Neill says “ There has been a lot of interest from our members to attend this event, in light of the emphasis placed on Auckland and Christchurch in Creative New Zealand’s Strategic Plan.”

After her presentation, the Minister will participate in a Q&A session with Arts Wellington members.

Arts Wellington is a charitable trust that provides networking opportunities, communication platforms, advocacy and capability building forums for its membership base. The members comprise most of Wellington region’s professional arts, culture and heritage organisations, arts service organisations and tertiary education institutions.

Arts Wellington regularly holds Strategic Forums to address specific issues and identify needs and opportunities in the sector. These provide members with insights into best practise for arts marketing, professional development and the opportunity for knowledge sharing.

Arts Wellington is governed by a board of trustees, comprising representatives of the arts, culture and heritage sector. The current trustees are:
