Auckland Poets Slam Their Way To The Finals

New Zealand Poetry Slam presents The 2nd Auckland Regional Poetry Slam Heat – a ruckus night of poetry and performance from the brightest and bravest of hearts. Melding personal narratives with passionate performances, poets battle it out to win a spot at the Finals.

Open to the first 12 poets to sign up, the top winners will move into the Auckland Finals this October! Winners of the Auckland Finals will win a trip and represent Auckland at the National Slam Finals in Hamilton this November.

The only national adult poetry competition in the country, New Zealand Poetry Slam brings together poets, audience members, and a chance to be crowned New Zealand National Slam Champion.

Featuring special guest Serena Simmons from Hawai’i. Serena is a writer of Maori and Pakeha descent born and raised on the island of O’ahu and is currently an undergraduate in the English department at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Serena is a former member of the 2011 and 2012 Youth Speaks Hawai’i slam teams that competed at the Brave New Voices international youth spoken word competition, and has had her poems published in Blackmail Press and Hawai’i Review.

Spotlighting Luka Lesson from Australia. Luke Haralampou, aka Luka Lesson, is a spoken word and Hip-hop artist of Greek heritage from Australia with 4 years of international touring, 14 Writers’ Festivals, 8 years of workshop experience and almost 10 years of writing under his belt.
