Roller Derby home teams fight for spot in champs

Roller Derby home teams fight for spot in champs

Wellington’s Richter City Roller Derby league will host the final game of their 2015 home season round robin on Saturday 4 July at Kilbirnie Rec Centre.

Home game two winners Brutal Pageant will take on Comic Slams to decide who advances to the 2015 Championship bout on 22 August. The superheroes of Slams haven’t been to the final since they won the 2013 home season and loyal fans will be out in silver and blue – or hot pink and red for the disgraced beauty queens of Pageant, who haven’t captured the cup since 2010.

This battle for the chance to vie for Richter’s 6th home season title features several veteran skaters and a whole new crop of rookies who’ve joined the Richter ranks this year. Fans can check out the new line-ups at https://www.facebook.com/richtercity

Now in its seventh year of public competition, Richter City boasts three home teams made up of members of the NZ#3 ranked Convicts (development team) and the NZ#1 ranked All Stars, who just returned from a 3-day tournament in Canberra with a podium finish behind the Aus #3 and #4 ranked teams – and their first international ranking.

Wellington is the premier location for derby competition in New Zealand and spectators will have to get in quick for the limited number of seats available.

Doors 6pm, bout starts 7pm – tickets available at http://www.eventfinder.co.nz/2015/roller-derby-brutal-pageant-vs-comic-slams/wellington
