Kiwi charity connects rural Northland schools with celebrated NZ children’s poet.

The New Zealand Book Council, the country’s leading charity connecting NZ writers with kiwi kids, is touring acclaimed children’s poet Paula Green around six rural Northland schools from 20th–24th July. This includes three low decile schools: Onerahi School, Manaia View School, and Ohaeawai School.

Each school will receive a specially tailored poetry experience with Paula. She will inspire students to write their own poetry by brainstorming poems with them, building confidence in their writing, and helping them to find their unique voice.

The rapport she builds with the students during the physical visit will be followed up by three Skype sessions per school, which will help the students develop their work.

The New Zealand Book Council will also support Paula to inspire Northland school librarians at two School Libraries Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (SLANZA) meetings in Whangarei and Keri Keri during the week.

This is a unique opportunity for schools to enjoy meeting and working with one of our top poets.
