ECsix completes another Volvo Ocean Race
24-07-2015 - For immediate Release
Gothenburg: June 27th, 2015.
After nine months, 11 Ports, 38,739 nautical miles and 10 In-Port races the seven teams of this edition of the Volvo Ocean Race completed this truly epic circumnavigation. In doing so, they have added more miles to the 1,000,000 plus miles already travelled by ECsix without failure.
With the overall win to Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing’s Azzam, this VOR has seen some of the closest racing in its 41-year history. Future Fibres, a proud supplier of the one design VOR 65´s fleet, congratulate all the teams for completing this gruelling challenge. With a special mention for ADOR skipper, Ian Walker, who succeeded to win the world´s premier offshore race in his second attempt.
For Future Fibres all started one year before the first In Port race in Alicante - when the order for producing ECsix rigging for the entire VOR 65´s fleet was received. Months of research, development and production resulted in producing the lightest, most reliable rigging the Volvo fleet has ever seen.
In addition to the complete fleet being dressed with ECsix side, fore and aft rigging Future Fibres also supplied our world leading Torquelite cables to the entire VOR 65’ fleet. These cables were used for the full range of furling sails. Through the race there was not one failure, again proving that Torquelite really is the world’s best furling cable solution.
Having pioneered the use of continuously wound, unidirectional-fibres for yacht rigging almost two decades ago, Future Fibres is now the world’s leading supplier for composite rigging to the race, cruise, and superyacht markets. As the industry benchmark for innovation and quality, Future Fibres has gained the reputation as the composite rigging provider of choice
“As a past Volvo competitor and now race CEO, I know that, when you are pushing to the limit, you need to trust your rigging 100%. For our new one-design Volvo Ocean 65 we needed rigging that could handle anything the race serves up,” said Knut Frostad.
With performance, innovation and dedication as the core brand values, Future Fibres will continue developing high-performance rigging to the world’s most demanding sailing challenges.
