Star-Led Panel to Judge Young Kiwi Talent
Star-Led Panel to Judge Young Kiwi Talent
New Zealand’s brightest young Kiwi talent will be judged by a starry-eyed panel of fashion and craft experts, in this year’s Brother Design Stars, youth talent search.
They are Coop Designer, Kayla Jurlina; well-known illustrator and social media celebrity, Kristina Webb; fashion designer, Celine Chapman; artist and TV One’s Kiwi Living presenter, Erin Simpson; award-winning creative and author, Fifi Colston and The 4.30 Show TV presenter, Eve Palmer. Completing the panel is Brother Marketing Manager, Emma Crossett.
Brother Design Stars gives young, budding fashion designers and creative artists the chance to showcase their talent and creativity through this year’s theme of ‘Identity’. Now in its second year, the awards encourage youth in school years 7 to 13 to enter one of two categories (fashion and craft) for a chance to win a share of $30,000 in prizes.
This year’s judges consist of talented Kiwis,
each with their own inspirational story, Crossett
says.
“What we love about our panel is that they’re
passionate, creative New Zealanders who we know young people
look up to and admire.”
World-renowned teen
illustrator, Kristina Webb has first-hand experience as an
emerging young artist, turning her love of drawing into a
global success story.
Webb who is set to launch her first book, ‘Color Me Creative’ in September this year, is passionate about inspiring young creative talent.
“There is nothing I love more than seeing people get creative, so to be a part of a competition that encourages young people to have a go, and showcase their talent to the nation, is very exciting,” says Webb.
She is joined by Trelise Cooper’s design assistant and designer of diffusion label, Coop, Kayla Jurlina, who will judge the Brother Design Stars Fashion Award category.
This year’s theme is close to Jurlina’s heart, having expressed her identity through fashion for most of her life, she says.
“Your identity defines you as a person and is a way of expressing who you are through the art of dressing. Every morning you have a chance to express how you want to present yourself to the world, and a competition that highlights this is amazing,” says Jurlina.
“I hope my experiences and story will inspire young people who are entering Brother Design Stars. I’m excited to see all the unique entries!”
Registrations for Brother Design Stars are now open and will close on Friday 21 August with all physical entries received for judging by 5pm Friday 4 September, 2015. Winners will be announced in late September.
