Waipareira and Whakauae sign MoU
Waipareira Chair Raymond Hall says the partnership with Whakauae Research will advance the whānau and the west Auckland community.
Wai-Research – the unit established in 2014 by Waipareira - and Whakauae Research today signed a Memorandum of Understanding agreement at Whānau Centre.
This marks an exciting working relationship for both organisations.
“We are fortunate to be partnering with such prestigious research group,” Raymond said.
“This can only advance our whānau. This partnership also sits well with the Waipareira Board’s 25 Year Strategic Plan.”
Whakauae Research Chair Peter Fraser said partnering with Wai-Research was a fantastic opportunity.
“We thought that there could be great opportunities for research collaboration between an iwi research centre and an urban Māori Authority,” Peter said.
“Whakauae have met with Wai-Research staff and already collaborating on research ideas and applications.
“This MOU formalises what we are seeing as an innovative partnership in research.
“It is also an honour to be representing the iwi of Ngāti Hauiti in this partnership with Te Whānau o Waipareira and confident this will be the start of a number of mutually beneficial research opportunities.
“It is exciting to be able to bring together the joint forces of iwi and urban Māori interests to make sure that the end goal of improving wellbeing for Māori is realised through collaborative research efforts.”
