Footnote New Zealand Dance celebrates 30th anniversary

Footnote New Zealand Dance celebrates 30th anniversary with World Premiere and national tour.

Footnote New Zealand Dance presents the World Premiere of 30Forward in celebration of their 30 year anniversary.

For three decades, Footnote New Zealand Dance has delighted and inspired Kiwis through contemporary dance. During the weekend of 28th-29th August the company premieres 30Forward, celebrating 30 years of success and innovation ahead of a nationwide tour of New Zealand.

Following the World Premiere in Wellington 30Forward tours to the Christchurch Arts Festival, Tempo Dance Festival in Auckland, Kokomai Creative Festival in Carterton, Tauranga Arts Festival and to Gisborne.

30Forward acknowledges the contribution of New Zealand choreographers throughout Footnote’s history with a selection of highlights from past works curated by Founding Director Director Deirdre Tarrant. The work includes a new commission from renowned choreographer Malia Johnston which draws on the company’s physical history to suggest where the next steps may take them. Johnston’s piece investigates the Footnote choreographic, visual and musical archives.

On the 27th of August the City Gallery hosts a Pecha Kucha event focusing on the culture of movement. Contemporary dance, music, movement, visual art and performance take centre stage as 12 industry experts take part in this marriage of concise presentation and the world of dance.

Other events on during the gala week in Wellington include The Art of Footnote - an exhibition featuring poster and programme design tracing back to 1985, projection onto a screen made of water as part of the Lux Light Festival, and a free behind-the-scenes look at Footnote in preparation for a performance.

The nationwide tour of 30Forward begins in Christchurch on Monday 31 August then travels to Auckland, Gisborne and Carterton, finishing in Tauranga on Friday 30 October. Tickets are on sale now, visit footnote.org.nz for ticketing information.
