It’s raining men on FindSomeone during ‘man drought’
Despite a number of reports pointing to a ‘man drought’ around the country New Zealand’s premium online dating site, FindSomeone, is not seeing any signs that women need to worry about a lack of potential partners.
In fact head of FindSomeone, Daniel Bridges, says that in every region they monitor except the Chatham Islands there are a higher percentage of men using the site than women.
“The term ‘man drought’ sounds interesting and certainly captures attention but we’re not seeing any evidence of it onsite. In fact from what we’re seeing in places like Canterbury it’s the opposite, guys there are experiencing a female drought,” says Daniel.
The Bay of Plenty is the region closest to gender parity with 51 per cent of users being male and 49 per cent female while Canterbury and Timaru/Oamaru have the greatest disparity with 58 per cent of users being male.
Our two largest cities also have a significant gender imbalance. Auckland (54 per cent) and Wellington (53 per cent) both had far more male users than female.
Another commonly held view is that there’s a lack of educated men between the ages of 25-40 for women to meet. Not on FindSomeone says Daniel.
“We just don’t buy that rumour. Right now we’ve got a near 50/50 split of males and females aged between 25-45 who have a university, tertiary or trade qualification.
“We often hear people say that singles need to ‘stop being so picky’ or compromise in some way to meet a partner. That’s no way to go about it. We’re all about helping our members find that person who is just right for them.
Daniel says that internet dating can be scary or feel weird but it’s about picking what works for you.
He says that FindSomeone is a smart tool for Kiwi singles who are on that path to finding ‘the one’.
“FindSomeone is all about providing Kiwis with a real depth in their online dating. We want our members to find the right person for them. We equip them with the right advice and tips to help them do just that.”
