Auckland Poets Battle With Hearts and Words

Auckland Poets Battle With Hearts and Words

Join New Zealand Poetry Slam for the Auckland Regional Slam featuring Michael Moore from Hamilton! A ruckus night where members of the audience determine who wins the slam, this is guaranteed to be a passionate and hilarious evening where poetry and performance blend.

Open to the first 12 poets to sign up, the top two winners will move into the Auckland Finals this October. Winners of the Auckland Finals win a trip to Hamilton to represent Auckland at the National Slam Finals this November. There is a short open mic before the poetry slam.

The only national adult poetry competition in the country, New Zealand Poetry Slam brings together poets, audience members, and a chance to be crowned New Zealand National Slam Champion.

Featuring Michael Moore
Michael Moore is a poet, father, and youth worker. A founding member of the Hamilton Poetry Society, he placed 2nd at the 2013 National Poetry Slam and was the 2012 Hamilton National Poetry Day Slam champion. He is a youth coach for Whai Marama Youth Services and acts as a Spoken Word mentor for high schools in the Hamilton area. An advocate for community, Michael has become the Hamilton Regional Organiser for the 2015 New Zealand National Poetry Slam with the goal of bringing new voices and poetry opportunities to the Waikato region. In 2014, Michael helped create “The Uplift Tour,” a week-long intensive by local poets to bring poetry to high schools and community venues with the goal of uplifting young people.
