Celebrating the well-loved Roald Dahl
Celebrating the well-loved Roald Dahl
Dunedin Public Libraries will be paying tribute to the well-loved children’s author, Roald Dahl, with a special series of story readings over the writer’s birthday weekend.
Born on 13 September 1916, Roald Dahl remains an evergreen favourite in children’s libraries and bookshops the world over, with his irreverent humour and compassion for children growing up in difficult circumstances. With a writing career spanning more than 60 years, he remains popular with adults and children alike.
Dunedin storyteller Nick Duval-Smith is looking forward to sharing Dahl’s stories, considering him “one of the most popular and fun writers for children”.
Nick says, “Dahl is one of my favourite authors of children's stories. His keen sense of drama and entertainment, coupled with a strong moral compass, make him an ideal choice for parents wanting to engage their children in the wonderful world of books.”
Nick will be reading excerpts from The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me, Dirty Beasts, and The Witches at the Coastal Libraries, Waikouaiti, Blueskin Bay and Port Chalmers on Saturday, 12 September, and a final reading on Sunday, 13 September in the Children’s Storypit at the City Library. Full details are available on the Dunedin Public Libraries website.
