After several months of pre-season training Premier Club cricketers from around Auckland will be in action this weekend. The season will get underway with the first round of the Jeff Crowe Cup which is contested with limited overs matches. All games start at 11am.
The first round features a number of exciting match ups and derbies. Mondiale Aces players in action include BLACKCAP Martin Guptill playing for Suburbs New Lynn along with Michael Bates and Jeet Raval, while Takapuna will have the services of Brad Cachopa and Robbie O’Donnell. Cornwall will have Michael Guptill-Bunce and Tarun Nethula in their ranks and Eden Roskill will have Brett Randell. Howick Pakuranga will be fielding the most Auckland players with Shawn Hicks, Donovan Grobbelaar, Colin de Grandhomme and Glenn Phillips all turning out against East Coast Bays.
The women’s Premier Competition also starts this weekend with the first two rounds of the Mortgage Supply Company T20 Championship being played. All of these matches will be contested at Keith Hay Park.
Auckland Cricket Community Cricket Manager Adrian Dale is excited the season is finally here.
“Meeting with clubs over the past few months there is a lot of positivity around the game. It is great to be in early October and have people so eager to get the season started.”
“Club cricket is where a lot of development happens and where people can push for higher honours, we have a strong competition here and having our Auckland players in the mix will only add to that quality.”
Dale says it isn’t just the Premier season he is looking forward to.
“We have seen a
great boost in the number of club registrations for this
season and we aren’t far away from having everyone in
action. It will be great to see so many people involved in
cricket over the summer.”
