Power Behind Volunteers

Power Behind Volunteers

Thursday the 5th of November is International Managers of Volunteers Day (IMVD).

IMVD is a chance to recognise and celebrate those who work to support New Zealand volunteers.

Volunteers are an incredible asset to the community. When VNZ recently surveyed the community sector, 81 per cent stated that volunteers are essential to achieving their organisational goals.

“Of course our volunteers are incredibly important, and without managers supporting these volunteers, little would be achieved,” says Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) Chief Executive, Scott Miller.

Thousands of dedicated managers of volunteers provide coordination, support, training, administration and recruitment to New Zealand volunteers every day.

“Behind every volunteer you will find, somewhere, a committed volunteer manager who organises, empowers and engages their team, and this ultimately makes volunteering possible,” says Miller.

“IMVD is an opportunity to give thanks to our New Zealand Managers of Volunteers, whether they are volunteers themselves or whether they are a national volunteer coordinator.

“Let’s make sure they are supported to continue their work, as without it, our national volunteering efforts would be much less effective” says Miller.

Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) is an association of New Zealand organisations that have a commitment to volunteering - such as volunteer centres, national and other organisations. Their mission is to promote, support and advocate for volunteering. To find out more visit our website. www.volunteeringnz.org.nz
