Celebrating International Volunteer Day
Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) celebrates New Zealand’s volunteers and volunteering in general on International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5th December.
“Volunteers are a significant part of NZ’s culture, something that underpins strong communities and the economic well-being of the country,” says VNZ Chief Executive, Scott Miller.
The Charities Aid Foundation World Giving Index 2015 compares and measures generosity across the globe. This year New Zealand is ranked third after Myanmar and the U.S.
“It is amazing to see how well New Zealand is doing – third in the world clearly demonstrates our propensity to give”
The report also accounts for participation in volunteering time, in which Kiwis have moved from 5th equal to fourth, in front of the U.S and Canada.
“It is a pleasure to work together with such engaged volunteers and managers of volunteers. We know we are fortunate to have such high levels of volunteer participation, which the World Giving Index vindicates.”
Volunteering New Zealand (VNZ) is an association of New Zealand organisations that have a commitment to volunteering - such as volunteer centres, national and other organisations. Their mission is to promote, support and advocate for volunteering. www.volunteeringnz.org.nz
