Cardrona Open for Summer
Cardrona Open for Summer
Cardrona opened for the 2015/2016 summer season on Sunday with picture perfect conditions. Visitors were welcomed to explore several new mountain biking trails, along with three new walking trails and two new mountain carting trails. Cardrona’s new mountain carts proved to be a popular attraction for the resort, which is now the only ‘Mountain Cart Station’ in the Southern Hemisphere. New mountain bike features have been added in the Base Area to further accommodate families, including an improved skills area and new pump track.
With two chairlifts running (McDougall’s Quad and Whitestar Express), nearly 100 people explored Cardrona’s mountain biking, carting and walking trails. McDougall’s provides access for scenic walkers and mountain carters, while also giving beginners easy access to novice mountain biking trails. Intermediate and advanced mountain bikers enjoyed access to the wide variety of trails predominantly by the Whitestar Express, but also via a shuttle pick up point in the Valley View car park. The Mezz Café was open and will stay open during the evenings to cater for alpine apartment guests and Cardrona’s new ‘Alpine by Night’ stargazing tours.
Cardrona Marketing Manager Nadia Ellis was thrilled with the ideal start to the summer season. “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying this unique alpine environment in such beautiful summer weather, the mountain carts in particular have been a hit!”
Due to popular demand Cardrona confirmed that it would extend sales of its new Gold Pass, New Zealand’s only combined winter and summer season pass. For more information on the Cardrona Gold Pass, visit www.cardrona.com/gold.
