Rhythm and Vines 2015, Day One Highlights

Day one of internationally renowned music festival, Rhythm and Vines, kicked off with a bang as a 15,000 strong crowd of jubilant festival-goers descended on a sunny Waiohika Estate today, marking what is a new dawn in Rhythm and Vines' 13 year-long history.

In a first for Rhythm and Vines, and possibly a New Zealand-first for any music festival, Freestyle Motocross champ Nick Franklin performed death-defying stunts and flips over the Vines stage, creating a buzz that lasted until the first musical acts for Rhythm and Vines 2015 kicked off.

With four stages presenting a range of entertainment options, the preferences of all festival-goers are covered.

In another of many exciting new additions to Rhythm and Vines this year, six of New Zealand's most talented comedians - Melanie Bracewell, Cori Gonzalez Macuer, Jamie Bowen, Paul Douglas, Matt Stellingwerf and Will Wood - took to the stage of the Old Mout Cider shack this afternoon to present the first-ever 'Giggle & Vines'. A big crowd chilled out on bean bags and cracked up at the non-stop Kiwi comedy, with early feedback confirming this innovative addition as a huge hit.

With a focus on offering a variety of quality food and beverage options this year, Rhythm and Vines customers enjoyed the tastes of the country’s top food truck vendors from Street Food Collective through to the popular Food Truck Garage.

Rhythm and Vines didn’t miss a beat despite losing Mac Miller one week earlier, with co-headliners Peking Duk and Yung Lean delivering one of the festival’s most memorable sets. Swedish rapper Yung Lean took to the Vines Stage in what was his first ever show on Kiwi shores. Dishing up their unique flavour of Indie electronica, Australian duo Peking Duk continued with their fist-pumping hits with NZ rapper Diaz Grimm joining the duo on stage, rounding of a killer set. Electronic heavyweight RL Grime then closed out Day One on the Vines stage.

Across the vineyard, on the new Rhythm Supertop stage, energetic Australian EDM duos Cut Snake and Slumberjack tore up the dance floor in their bass-heavy style, with Kiwi DJ Tim Phin finishing off the night. And the legendary Cellar Stage in the Smirnoff #PUREPOTENTIAL Forest was packed to capacity from open till close.
