HEY MAN! IT’S HAYMAN FOR WAITANGI CELEBRATIONS IN
2016
Waitangi Day Family Celebrations return to Hayman Park in 2016 with a fantastic line up of top acts and new local talent.
South Auckland gets the chance to welcome Savage back to the hood following his recent success at the 50th Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards where he picked up the International Achievement award and Highest Selling Single for the song ‘Freaks’ with Timmy Trumpet.
Ranea, winner of Best Māori Album at the same awards, will share the bill with Three Houses Down, Sid Diamond and Dei Hamo and X Factor NZ Contestant, Maaka Fiso.
“That Auckland has had a whānau-friendly celebration for of Waitangi Day for close to 20 years now is something we can all be very proud of. To see big local names on the main stage as well as tamariki groups and school bands is what the day is all about,” says Mayor Len Brown.
The free, family-friendly day-long event is presented by Auckland Council in partnership with Toi o Manukau, an organisation founded to provide opportunities for local artists and performers to display their talents to a wide audience.
The Nesian Vibes from Manurewa High School and Pao Pao Pao graduates, mentored by acclaimed artists including Tama Waipara, Warren Maxwell and Rob Ruha complete the line up while an emerging artists’ stage will showcase the stars oftomorrow.
The celebrations return to Hayman Park for the first time since 2008.
“The success of Pasifika Festival 2015 at Hayman Park ensured the easy return of this event in 2016. The park provides plenty of shade, has a great history with this kaupapa and has good transport options to make it easy for whānau to attend”, says event programmer, Anahera Higgins.
The family day is focused on providing a safe, zero waste, alcohol and smoke-free experience. The park opens at 9am; a pōwhiri begins at 10am followed by the day’s live stage entertainment.
