Aldous Harding in New Zealand this March

Under the Radar Presents
Aldous Harding in New Zealand this March

Christchurch-bred folk singer Aldous Harding will perform four shows around New Zealand in early March 2016. With a raft of new songs ready for the stage and an eagerly awaited second album in the works for release in 2016, this ‘toweringly talented’ songwriter (as hailed by The 405) will play four dates around the country before commencing tours of Australia, the U.K and Europe.

Aldous has received praise from some of the most critical corners of the music industry, her self-titled debut album receiving 4 stars in MOJO and Uncut, and thriving timelessly since its 2014 release. While Aldous’ music is reminiscent of 60s-era folk singers Vashti Bunyan and Linda Perhacs, its rich imagery and stark instrumentation occupies more harsh terrain. There are few happy endings, but the power is in how Harding enters into battle; with a dancer’s grace and a boxer’s stance.

Her disarming slant on gothic folk is accompanied on the stage by a wry wit and tenacious gall, as witnessed by hoards of antipodean crowds at Sydney & Perth Festivals and Golden Plains in 2015. She has also toured with such acts as Tiny Ruins, Perfume Genius and Laura Jean, beguiling fans and first-timers alike.

Aldous’ New Zealand shows offer a rare chance to catch her new material performed live and before its recorded release. With a touring schedule roving from Australia to the U.K. and Europe throughout 2016, fans and fresh ears alike would be wise to listen up and witness Aldous Harding at this seminal point in the still early stages of an undoubtedly huge career.

The tour kicks off in Christchurch on Thursday 3 March at Blue Smoke (old Gustavs), followed by the Leigh Sawmill on Friday 4 March, Wellington’s Meow on Saturday 4 March and Auckland’s Whammy Bar on Sunday 5 March.

Tickets to all shows are available from 14 January from Under the Radar, with support acts to be announced. Please note that these venues have limited capacity and are likely to sell out, so be sure to get in quick.
