Milestones for Boxing Promoter

Auckland, New Zealand’s Craig Thomson, has achieved multiple milestones in his career. Recently discovered by one of the Boxrec editors, Thomson has achieved the following:

Promoting boxing fight nights more than any other New Zealand born person or organisation with 30 shows and still counting.

Promoting boxing fight nights in New Zealand More than any other person or organisation with all of his shows being held in New Zealand.

Matchmaking boxing fight nights more than any other New Zealand Born person or organisation with 66 shows and still counting.

About to reach his tenth year anniversary for being a Promoter and Matchmaker in December 2016

Being the few people to have been a Boxing Promoter, Matchmaker, Professional Boxer, Judge, Referee, Boxing Manager and Title Supervisor.

Thomson achieved a couple of these milestones last year, where he surpassed ABA Pro-Am Promotions who had promoted 28 Auckland shows and Mike Edwards who promoted 25 New Zealand shows and 2 Australian Shows.

Thomson stated ‘never in his wildest dreams he thought he would achieve so much in his ten year career’. In December 2006, a 21 year old Thomson started off his career at Auckland’s ABA Stadium, where he promoted and matchmade his first solo Professional Boxing show. Ten years on, Thomson has achieved so much in his career.

When asked what he thought was the highlight of his career, he said “The people I've met mate. Met some really cool, down to earth, genuine people who have become good friends. If I had to choose - it would be Gunnar Jackson’s fight in Las Vegas november last year against Japanese Olympic gold medalist on the Top Rank show. Going from promoting on club shows in NZ to the biggest stage in World Boxing.”

Thomson said that he does not have any particular number of shows that he would like to aim for, however he just wants to “....keep promoting professional boxing by putting on good fights which make good shows and keep promoting my fighters to the best of my ability.”

One thing Thomson has yet to achieve is to promote a world title. “If i get the opportunity to promote a world title bout with one of the top 4 that would be huge. Ideally that opportunity arises because its one of the fighters i promote making it to that level.”

Thomson will most likely promote four or five fight nights this year, including a tenth year anniversary show in December 2016.
