Psychedelic disco and ancient future funk
Welcome to the Performance Arcade’s Daring Music Series
The
Performance Arcade is an annual Live Art mini-festival
and programme of free events located on
Wellington
Waterfront. Using a series of shipping containers, the
Arcade creates a string of spaces for installation,
performance art, sonic art, audio-visual art, interactive
media, culinary art and live music.
Artistic Director Sam Trubridge is pleased to present a line-up of over 20 local bands as part of the Music Series, through buoyant evening sets and lazy afternoon sessions.
Prismatic space soundscapes of theremin warbles, rhythmic chanting over the strumming of hand-crafted guitars, bridging performance art, theatre and music Orchestra of Spheres headline the opening of the Performance Arcade’s live music stage with an evening that will go from the weird to the brilliant!
Since 2009 Orchestra of Spheres have developed an
international, cult-like following. Playing opera houses,
house parties, DIY shows, and festivals, they have built a
reputation for musically and visually ecstatic live shows.
Setting the scene with silver foil-wrapped space funk,
electro pop, their sound has
been described as
psychedelic disco and ancient future
funk.
Multi-instrumentalist Lake South, the new project from Lake of Urbantramper, is part of the Opening Night line-up. His first single Good Keen Man was 2014's Silver Scroll nominated anthem for disillusionment. Lake was a finalist in the 2014 NZ Music Awards' Critics' Choice award and is releasing an EP early 2016.
