Come Sail Away with Ben Shewry at Cloudy Bay

Come Sail Away with Ben Shewry at Cloudy Bay

In the jade green waters and the cool valley air, Marlborough’s landscape speaks to us.

For over 30 years Cloudy Bay has celebrated the natural bounty of Marlborough. Cloudy Bay is taking this to a new level in creative partnership with Chef Ben Shewry of Attica Restaurant in Melbourne, to forage for Marlborough’s natural luxuries and to present a unique epicurean experience from 15-17 February.

Leaving the city behind for the expanses of Marlborough, Forage 2016 guests (including international media) will take to the sea, to the land and to the rivers to fish, hunt and gather shellfish, indigenous plants and game for Shewry’s kitchen. Using these finest foraged ingredients Ben Shewry will design a degustation dinner with an indelible sense of our place. Each memorable creation from Shewry will be matched with an outstanding wine from Cloudy Bay’s cellars.

Growing up with nature as his playground, Shewry learnt to gather and cherish its gifts. His Melbourne restaurant, Attica, is an extension of his past and each dish represents a story, and often, a chapter in his life. Shewry and Attica are internationally acclaimed, including:

• 32nd Best Restaurant in the World (World 50 Best, 2015)
• Best Restaurant in Australasia (World 50 Best, 2015)
• Three Chef Hats (Australian Good Food Guide, 2015)

The collaboration between Shewry and Cloudy Bay embodies a harmony of philosophies founded on a close relationship with nature.

Cloudy Bay Estate Director, Ian Morden, said, “At the winery we are all keen foragers. Finding this wonderful natural produce literally on our doorstep in Marlborough is a source of joy. Ben Shewry is a forager and we are excited to have him with us. He was born in New Zealand, like Cloudy Bay.”

Foraging will expose guests to the rich natural context of Cloudy Bay’s wines. Senior Winemaker Tim Heath is particularly excited to pair Cloudy Bay wines with Ben Shewry’s cuisine, “Ben’s cuisine has a natural balance and harmony to it, which is very much something I strive for in our Cloudy Bay wines.”

To complement these exciting developments, this year Cloudy Bay will release a new book entitled, ‘Cloudy Bay Forage – An Epicurean Journey into the Heart of Marlborough’. The evocative book features images and stories inspired by the pristine Marlborough landscape.

Forage 2016 will immerse our guests in the essence and philosophy of Cloudy Bay.
