Auckland City Limits Announces Festival Artworks Programme

Auckland City Limits announces more of its vision to be more than just a music festival with a series of artworks from leading contemporary artists to be installed into Western Springs for the 19 March event.

A highlight is Ngahere, a new large scale collaborative effort between noted artists Judy Darragh, 2017 Venice Biennale representative Lisa Reihana with architect Sue Hillary and designer Robin Rawstorne.

Other artists to feature in the festival’s art programme include a mix of well-known names like sculptors Jeff Thompson, Lou Purvis and Aaron McConchie, mixed media artist Julieanne Eason, and environmentalist and textile artist Miranda Brown.

Another collaborative group, LGOP – the Looks Good on Paper Collective – are bringing Zietsetz to the festival. This set of structures is one of several works that will bring interactivity with art into play at the festival.

Amanda Wright is the curator charged with putting Auckland City Limits’ exciting arts programme together. A founder of Splore, Amanda has been at the forefront of creative direction for Splore, the Big Chill, Trash to Fashion, Erupt and numerous other events.

“Globally the most successful festivals now include visual arts as part of the offering to their audiences,” she explains.

“I am thrilled to be working with Auckland City Limits to make this festival a new platform for artists and designers to present their works within an urban park environment with history and a story to tell.

“We want the works to create links between all the various zones of Auckland City Limits in a playful, practical adventure,” says Wright.

The mix of static and interactive works will bring colour and imagination into life for the audience – another element marking Auckland City Limits as a must-see experience in the city this summer!
