An exhibition of paintings by the 59 finalists for this year’s Adam Portraiture Award, one of the country’s premier art prizes, will open at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery on Thursday.
The award is held every two years and the exhibition is traditionally one of the most popular on the arts calendar.
Danish art expert Mette Skougaard will talk at the gallery at 12.30pm Thursday about how she chose the $20,000 winner from a record 366 entries from all over New Zealand.
The exhibition will run until May 29 and visitors can vote their favourite portrait for the $2500 People’s Choice Award which will be announced when it closes.
New Zealand Portrait Gallery, Shed 11, Queen’s Wharf, Wellington. Open daily 10.30am – 4.30pm . Free entry.
