SongHubs Auckland 2016 begins
Songwriters and producers from around New Zealand and the world have descended on Roundhead Studios in Auckland for one week of intensive songwriting.
“The beginning of a musical project is always exciting, and even more so when it’s a collaborative project” says APRA New Zealand’s Head of Operations Anthony Healey. “When people work together something special happens – something is created that no-one could have created individually, that is often even greater than the sum of its parts.”
“Not only is SongHubs Auckland a musical collaboration, but also a collaboration from across the New Zealand music industry” he continues. “NZ on Air, Auckland Council, Recorded Music New Zealand and the New Zealand Music Commission have all come together to make this event a reality”.
SongHubs Auckland has attracted some of the best songwriters in the world – songwriters that have collaborated with Madonna, Adele, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, James Blunt, One Direction, Lana Del Rey, David Guetta and Jason Derulo. These songwriters are being paired with twelve of our most promising home-grown songwriters and four local producers to co-write new songs.
The NZ Music Commission believes that the event provides a great opportunity to connect our local songwriters with the world.
“SongHubs is an exciting initiative that has the potential not only to produce world-wide hits, but also to foster further collaboration between our local artists and the international music industry at the highest level” says Cath Andersen, Chief Executive of the NZ Music Commission. “We’re proud to be involved and are hoping that it can become an annual event”.
SongHubs Auckland runs from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th February at Roundhead Studios in Auckland. For more information, including a full list of local participating songwriters visitwww.apraamcos.co.nz. SongHubs is an APRA AMCOS initiative, supported by the Federal Government of Australia.
