SongHubs Auckland wraps up for 2016
Three superstar international songwriters, twelve local songwriters, four producers and over 650 combined hours of songwriting - SongHubs Auckland has come to an end for 2016.
“What an amazing week it was - Roundhead Studios was brimming with creativity and fresh combinations of talented people crafting brand new songs” says David Ridler, NZ On Air’s Head of Music and Radio. “NZ On Air was a proud partner of the inaugural New Zealand SongHubs, and based on what we’ve heard so far and the excitement that has been generated, I’m sure there will be many more to come. We can’t wait to hear some of these new tracks hit the airwaves, and we’ll follow their progress with great interest.”
MoZella, one of the visiting international songwriters whose credits include Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, One Direction, Kelly Clarkson and Ellie Goulding, was extremely impressed with the quality of songwriting in New Zealand.
“Sacha, Lindy and I feel so lucky to have been able to work with such a talented group of songwriters, artists and producers” she says. “There’s something unique about songwriting in New Zealand - it’s genuine, honest and heartfelt - and it’s these qualities that are at the centre of all truly great songs”
The aim of SongHubs has been to create opportunities for New Zealand and Australian songwriters that they might not otherwise have access to; to give them the chance to work with some of the top writing talent in the world today, to build a collaborative writing culture in New Zealand and to foster new creative relationships for our artists.
“Twenty songs have come out of five incredibly intense days of collaborating and it was incredible to witness the energy and openness of everyone involved” says Victoria Kelly, manager of NZ Member Services for APRA AMCOS. “None of these songs could have been written any other way, they’ve come from a totally focused and unique space that was created specifically for the purpose of writing”.
SongHubs Auckland ran from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th February, and was made possible with the support of APRA AMCOS, NZ On Air, Auckland Council, Recorded Music and the New Zealand Music Commission.
