Win for Cox at NZ International Rallycross
Sloan Cox and the Cox Motorsport Team are ecstatic to
have taken first overall in the first ever Teng Tools NZ
International Rallycross in the Taslo Engineering Hillclimb
Beast.
Being a local event, the team decided to compete in both the Taslo Engineering Evo X and the Hillclimb Beast for maximum exposure for their amazing team of sponsors. Cox found it to be a challenging weekend changing between the two cars but by the end of the weekend he had learnt a lot about the handling and how to get the most from each car.
The cars both ran almost faultlessly, with the only issue to surface all weekend was on the final run in the Evo X when the centre diff pump stopped working. This resulted in a lack of handling and the car not idling, which we think was caused from a faulty throttle body. This caused a small amount of time to be lost, but not enough to stop Cox.
With Cox’s main domain being rallying in which cars compete with one minute intervals, a stand out moment for him over the weekend was racing so close to other cars. Racing on mixed surfaces and going through most corners sideways is not something Cox gets to do often and he loved every minute of the event.
Overall Cox could not be happier with the whole weekend and thinks that for a first event it ran amazingly. Cox believes that everyone involved has learnt alot and the team are sure that the teething problems can be ironed out before another event. "We know now what is involved in rallycross and believe that we can better prepare our cars to be faster and at the top of all races for future rallycross events. We are hoping that the event will return in 2017 and that more competitors and spectators will get out and enjoy the event as we definitely recommend it. A big thank you must go to Ron Dixon for making this event possible and for Teng Tools for getting behind as a sponsor of the event," states Cox.
Cox Motorsport now turn their attention to finishing refreshing the Mitsubishi Evo X ahead of Rally Otago the first round of the 2016 New Zealand Rally Championship.
