Downtown Tauranga Jumps With Jazz This Easter

Downtown Tauranga Jumps With Jazz This Easter

This Easter Downtown Tauranga and the waterfront will be filled with music and the carnival atmosphere of the National Jazz Festival.

Taking place in the central city on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 March, Tauranga’s biggest street party brings some of the best jazz, blues, funk and soul to downtown.

With five stages set up along the Strand, and fantastic family entertainment at Masonic Park, the city is a hive of activity from noon until 6pm each day.

Festival Director Rebecca Chambers says they have programmed a wide range of music from classic jazz, blues, swing, soul and funk.

“On Saturday we have a great selection of jazz and blues from an awesome line-up of bands. New this year is our Stars of Tomorrow on The Hits Stage where the best young up and coming jazz players from the National Youth Jazz Competition will show off their skills. We also have jazz in the Art Gallery this year with Richard Adams and Nigel Gavin performing from 3.15-4.15pm. And we have the beautiful antique brass and nickel vehicles rolling into town – they’ll be on display in Willow St from 11.30am.”

This year The Hurricane Party will be happening on Tauranga waterfront. It has expanded to two nights - Saturday 26 March and Sunday 27 March from 7.30pm to late. The Hurricane Party is known for delivering high energy performances appealing to a younger audience. This year the Hurricane Parties feature two audience favourites from previous years – Richter City Rebels and Hipstamatics – as well as newcomers to the festival, Sal Valentine and the Babyshakes and from Australia, Sex on Toast.

On Sunday the music continues with another great line-up of 14 bands at the Downtown Carnival as well as family fun at Masonic Park.

“There is something for everyone over the weekend – the town will be jumping! Get together with friends and family and enjoy great jazz and blues at the lovely Downtown Tauranga and celebrate Easter with us,” concludes Mrs Chambers.
