Tom Eagles Receives International Editor Mentorship

Tom Eagles Receives International Editor Mentorship with Dany Cooper

The Directors & Editors Guild of NZ (DEGNZ) is pleased to announce Tom Eagles as the recipient of our International Editor Mentorship for 2016 with award-winning Australian editor Dany Cooper.

"I’m excited and very grateful to be selected for the mentorship. Dany’s great range of credits are evidence of a vast store of knowledge which I intend to plunder comprehensively,” said Eagles.

Dany has recently completed editing Holding the Man for Goalpost Pictures. Other recent credits include Deadline Gallipoli, Redfern Now, Puberty Blues, Paranoia and The Sapphires. Her international work includes TV miniseries Battlestar Galactica, for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award, Warner Bros feature Queen of the Damned and In Too Deep for Miramax/Dimension. She is currently editing Measure of a Man (working title) for Jim Loach, starring Donald Sutherland, Blake Cooper, Luke Wilson and Judy Greer. Dany has also mentored at the Australian Film Television and Radio School and held the position of President of the Australian Screen Editors Guild from 2014 to mid 2015.

“My aim as a mentor is to help the mentee develop professionally, provide advice and share experience and wisdom. Tom’s already well developed skill set, drive and sense of humour encouraged me to feel he would be receptive and would greatly benefit from this guidance,” Dany said.

Tom has a range of productions as an editor to his credit, including Go Girls, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and more recently, What We Do in the Shadows, Ash Vs Evil Dead and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

“Tom’s mentorship with Dany builds on the success we had with editor Cushla Dillon and her mentor, Justine Wright,” said Executive Director of DEGNZ Tui Ruwhiu. “We are confident that Tom will further develop in his already successful career with the experienced international insight that Dany brings.”

The mentorship is an industry professional development initiative funded by the New Zealand Film Commission and managed by DEGNZ. The overall intention of the International Editor Mentorship is to inspire a promising New Zealand editor and demystify the international film industry. The experience offers genuine insight into creative process and engagement with the industry as a whole, while providing a solid platform upon which to build an international career.
