New Single from Louis Baker, Announces New Album

Pacific Heights Releases New Single/Video with Louis Baker And Announces Album The Stillness

Pacific Heights releases the mesmerizing new single and video for ‘Buried by the Burden’, featuring Louis Baker, taken from the upcoming album THE STILLNESS – out May 27 via Warner Music NZ.

Pacific Heights is the alias of Wellington based songwriter and producer Devin Abrams. Known for his solo work and the fifteen years he spent in Shapeshifter, THE STILLNESS is his first Pacific Heights album in eight years. The result is a work that pays homage to Devin’s past while also giving him the freedom to present his own vision on progressive electronic music. "I'm deeply attached to the album but feel ready for it to take flight and move into its own space," says Devin. “It’s a moment of pause and peace above troubled waters.”

Buried by the Burden’, the second track released from THE STILLNESS, showcases Devin’s incredible knack for transforming the sonic into the cinematic. The rich textures, smoky edges, and flaring electronic surges, coupled with the ethereal performance from upcoming Wellington vocalist Louis Baker make for a truly breath-taking piece of music.

"Buried by the Burden was a completely impromptu and organic journey between me and my good friend Louis Baker”, reflects Devin. “The song has significant meaning to both of us, as we both put many personal elements and troubles into the story of the song. Making the song was a very healing and cathartic process, and it led me to believe again that music itself is often the only remedy for pains that have no answer or definition."

A stunning video for ‘Buried by the Burden’ premiered over the weekend on global arts and culture site Nowness. The video was created with award winning director Sam Peacocke and was created without cameras. Instead the 3D models of the landscape and Louis Baker were captured using an industrial laser scanner and an X-Box Kinect. “The perception of memories flowing through our subconscious minds are for the most part, three dimensional records of events past", says Devin. “Personally these records are always incomplete, distant facsimiles of the real thing. In a way; this project replicates the lossy, constantly decaying mechanism of memory by way of the techniques used to make it.”
