All Black’s Side Step Onto Origin Stage
The Stage of Origin, Wednesday 27th April 2016

Rugby Union and Rugby League are facing a head to head battle as they compete for this years Stage of Origin title in support of the Duffy Books in Homes charity.

After a 5 year hiatus the hilarious Stage of Origin is making a comeback for a serious cause.

The event is an unrehearsed comedy theatre show, with teams consisting of 4 sporting icons and 1 comedian.

All proceeds go to Duffy Books in Homes; a charity providing thousands of Kiwi children over 650,000 brand new books each year.

Stars like Jerome Kaino, Liam Messam and Justin Hodges will compete through 8 rounds of grueling challenges. Songs will be sung, dances will be danced and tops will be taken off.

New Zealand's first Bachelor Art Green, and Silver Fern Maria Tutaia will be part of the judging panel to decide the all-important question – Which code is the simply the best, Rugby League or Rugby Union?

All Black Sevens Captain Liam Messam says the show has an incredible line up that supports an amazing cause where all proceeds will go to the tens of thousands of children who do not have access to their own books.

"As a Duffy Books in Homes Role Model I have seen how excited the kids get to receive their own brand new books, it’s truly something special”

General Manager of Duffy Books in Homes, Linda Vagana is thrilled to see so many talented individuals come together to raise funds and awareness around a cause that tackles the heart of the problem.

”The solution to poverty is a nation that reads, a nation that is educated. Children having choice and ownership of their own brand new books is the driving philosophy behind Duffy Books in Homes.”

A quarter of Auckland’s children are below the average reading standard by the end of primary school and 40% of our adult population are considered to have low literacy according to Comet’s ‘Unlocking Auckland’s Potential’ study.

Stage of origin is being held at the Logan Campbell Centre on Wednesday 27th April at 8pm. Tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.
