Please join the artists for the opening of 47°South Rakiura
Please join the artists for the opening of 47°South Rakiura: Five artists on Stewart Island, Wednesday 4 May from 5.30 to 7.00pm.
Exhibition runs from 4 May to 4 June
Solander Gallery is excited to present a suite of artworks inspired by an artist residency project on Stewart Island. On exhibition will be limited edition and unique works from the project artists: Auckland based John Pusateri and Jacqueline Aust, Dunedin based Jenna Packer and Inge Doesburg, and Wellingtonian Jacqui Colley. Each artist brings a fascinating perspective to this shared experience of Stewart Island.
“I’m impressed by these artists’ willingness to experiment with printmaking to try and capture the complexity of those things within and beneath. The energy, spirit and stories of Rakiura are held in the play of textures and line. These print ‘postcards’ speak strongly for the enduring vitality of printmaking.” Mark Amery (catalogue essay) April 2016.
Accompanying the exhibition is a 32 page colour catalogue that takes you on a journey from the artist residency project on Stewart Island to the artist studios and finished artwork, featuring an essay by arts writer Mark Amery.
The 47° South exhibition will also open at Oban, Stewart Island/Rakiura on the 14th of May 2016, and then continue with a tour of regional galleries and museums throughout mainland New Zealand from 2016 to 2017.
