Armstrong in Spain for Second Cik-Fia European KZ Champs Round
Kiwi kart ace Marcus Armstrong is at the Zuera kart track in northern Spain this weekend, contesting the second round of this year's CIK-FIA European KZ Karting Championships.
The 15-year-old from Christchurch, who drives for the works Tony Kart team, finished 12th at the opening round in France last month and after a positive test in Spain this week is keen for another strong result this weekend.
"We had an unofficial test earlier this week," he said on Thursday," and the track is great in a KZ. It's probably the fastest track on the calendar and definitely the biggest. We approach Turn 1 at just over 160km/h and have a half lift for the corner! The track surface isn't fantastic though as tyre wear has been an issue, however our outright lap times have been among the best. The weather was really nice when we tested, too, so I can't wait to race here."
Sharing the limelight with the premier KZ class at Zuera this weekend are the new OK and OK Junior classes with the opening rounds of their European Championship series. All up the meeting has attracted 145 entries across the three classes with 34 countries represented.
Armstrong's works Tony Kart squad teammate, Marco Ardigo leads the point standings in the KZ class after his first round win in France last month from fellow Italian Flavio Camponeschi and Frenchman Jeremy Iglesias.
