New Zealand Fashion Week Announces an Exciting New 2016 Show

The New Zealand Fashion Week Graduate Show, Supported by Brother

New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) is excited to announce a new show on the schedule this year, set to showcase the next generation of talented fashion designers.

The New Zealand Fashion Week Graduate Show Supported by Brother, will allow the top three students representing Otago Polytech, Massey University and Auckland’s Fashion Tech to showcase their designs on New Zealand’s most prestigious catwalk.

The show will also feature the winners and finalists from Brother Design Stars , an annual competition that gives budding young fashion designers and creative artists in school years 7 to 13, a chance to showcase their talent to the nation.

NZFW Strategic Director Dame Pieter Stewart DNZM says this new show is another way NZFW is supporting a pathway of success for New Zealand designers, a pathway that now extends from high school through tertiary level and onto becoming an established designer in the New Zealand industry.

“The NZFW Graduate Show Supported by Brother is a project the NZFW team has been working on for some time and we are proud to see the show come to fruition at this year’s event.

“We know that for the New Zealand industry to continue to thrive, we need the next generation of designers to be given opportunities to grow and develop their skills, not just designing but with the business side of fashion as well. This show will certainly give all the designers involved a chance to experience what the world of fashion is all about,” said Stewart.

Brother’s involvement in this show adds an exciting new element to the Brother Design Stars competition, which is now in its 3rd year. Brother Design Stars has enabled budding young designers to realise their dreams, with the dress created by last year’s Supreme Winner (12-year-old Ellie Goldfinch) being recreated by COOP by Trelise Cooper. Entries for this year’s competition are open now.

The show will be held in the NZFW Runway, the bigger of the two NZFW onsite catwalks with the date and time to be confirmed when the official NZFW 2016 Designer schedule is released.
