Datsuns Drummer Going Underground

Datsuns Drummer Going Underground

Hot Wellington rockers THE JOINT CHIEFS, featuring The Datsuns drummer Ben Cole, are set to rock the city as they hit Hamilton on Friday 8th July 2016 with a show at Nivara Lounge basement music venue.

Having been hailed in some quarters as New Zealand’s answer to The White Stripes, the duo, Cole and bandmate Heidi have been playing together since meeting at jazz school in Wellington around the turn of the millennium. They take inspiration from such luminaries as Flaming Lips and PJ Harvey - as Cole puts it ‘musicians who do things their own way, and would sound that way even if no-one had heard of them’.

THE JOINT CHIEFS sound is something of a departure from the more traditional heavy rock of The Datsuns, using just drums, keyboards and a plethora of effects pedals to forge their pop punk songs and power their spectacular live show. When asked what the other members of The Datsuns thought of his other band, Cole quipped ‘Phil’s young daughter is a massive fan!’

Joining THE JOINT CHIEFS are legendary Hamilton alt-rockers RUMPUS ROOM, and up-and-coming electro performance artist GLASS SHARDS.

Doors open at 8.30pm, the first band is at 9.30pm, the show is licensed but all-ages friendly, and entry is just $10 on the door.
