Avalon Film And TV Studios Continuing Sponsorship

Tropfest New Zealand has today announced Wellington’s Avalon Film & Television Studios will be continuing their sponsorship of the short film festival as the official Studio Partner.

The ‘Studio Award’ will again be sponsored by Avalon Film & Television Studios, which includes a $10,000 studio package one of the lucky Tropfest finalists.

Suzanne Porter, Tropfest NZ CEO, said Avalon’s continued support of the festival was testament to the necessity of Tropfest for NZ filmmakers. “These are the kind of partnerships we strive to achieve, ones that provide our finalists with real opportunities for career development.”

Tropfest films are judged live of the night with the award ceremony taking place immediately after the screening. All finalist films will be eligible to win the Studio Award, with the winner being chosen on the night.

Avalon Studios have also ensured all finalists are rewarded, extending a special studio rate to the remaining 15 Tropfest finalist films.

Gary Watkins, CEO of Avalon Studios said “given the success of last year’s prize, we are very pleased to announce that we will continue to sponsor the Studio Prize package for Tropfest in 2017.”

David Gould, recipient of the Studio Award in 2016 used the prize to create an 8 minute teaser for a feature film he’s currently working on titled Stolen Senses. David said “Winning the prize was an enormous boon for us. We wanted to produce a professional promotional teaser to help garner interest and financing for the feature film but didn’t have a huge budget.”

“We encourage emerging talented film makers to contact myself or Studio Manager Richard Lander at any time to come and look around our facility and have a chat. We are here to give filmmakers the boost they need to advance their projects and by doing so their eventual careers.”

Avalon Studios has been under independent ownership since April 2013 and was formerly the home of iconic TV shows like Country Calendar and Dancing with the Stars as well as an extensive inventory of feature films, advertising campaigns and media events.

Since its private ownership it has been associated with a number of film projects like “Belief – The Janet Moses Story” by KHF Media, “How to Murder Your Wife” by Screentime, “Consent: The Louise Nicholas Story” by Desert Road Productions, “Dead Room” by Centron Pictures. As well as NZ Film Commission Platinum Shorts – “Feeder” by Little Wolf Ltd, “Judgment Tavern” by Useful Media.

The facilities at Avalon Studios includes a wide range of sound proof Studios, lighting equipment, set making workshops, production offices as well as a skilled workforce available on demand. It also has its own Production Development business.

Entries for the 2017 Tropfest competition close at 5pm on November 25th, 2016 the finalist line-up is scheduled to be announced the third week of January 2016 and the main screening event will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the TSB Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth.
