Strong Designer Showcase Confirmed for 2016 New Zealand Fashion Week

New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) is thrilled to announce its provisional designer line up for 2016, with a strong stable of established and emerging talent set to showcase their collections on the NZFW catwalks at the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre from Monday 22 August - Sunday 28 August.

Celebrated design duo Harman Grubiša has been revealed as the recipients of Mercedes-Benz Presents accolade for 2016 and will open NZFW in their signature style with an elegant show on Monday evening at 8.30pm.

Some of the country’s best-loved labels feature across the schedule with forward-season looks from Hailwood, Federation, Carena West, Wynn Hamlyn, Lucilla Gray, Eugenie and Salasai showcased at the ANZ Viaduct Events Centre and Huffer, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Knuefermann and Twenty Seven Names presenting their collections at off-site venues.

Streetwear label Federation returns to the NZFW stable with renewed strength, showing collections to both the trade audience during the week and to consumers during NZ Fashion Weekend. This is a full circle celebration for the brand, who first participated as New Generation designers in 2002 to international acclaim.

Following their successful first appearances at New Zealand Fashion Week in 2015, Wynn Hamlyn, Lucilla Gray and Carena West are all presenting their collections independently within the Contemporary Salon category this year. Wynn Hamlyn will show his beautifully-crafted modern pieces on Tuesday, quirky and feminine Lucilla Gray designs will be presented on Wednesday, while Carena West will exhibit her statement swimwear on Thursday afternoon. Penny Sage will also show as a Contemporary Salon designer, bringing her special brand of minimalist luxury to the line-up.

A stellar AOK K’Road show featuring Lela Jacobs, Jimmy D, Ovna Ovich and Maaike is set to stun on Tuesday night – reinforcing the serious style pedigree that hails from this part of the city.

For the very first time Seafarers Members Club will feature as an off-site venue, presenting glamourous Kneufermann designs in their luxurious surrounds on Thursday morning.

The caliber of new fashion design talent from around New Zealand triggered the decision to include a second New Generation show this year. The two New Generation shows will feature emerging designers on the rise including Erik Yvon, Mitchell Vincent, AO Label, Campbell Luke, Motel Bible, Kendall Watt and Danielle Power-Silk.

Dame Pieter Stewart comments that this year “sees a particularly strong group of emerging, new generation and graduate designers and New Zealand Fashion Week is incredibly proud to provide a supportive platform which this next generation of talent can launch their careers.”

The 2016 Miromoda showcase is set to be another highlight of the schedule featuring exceptionally talented designers of Maori heritage, including 2016 Supreme Winners of the Miromoda Fashion Design Competition, Keri Wanoa and Brooke Strang of Wanoa Four.

The Friday Fashion Lunch closes out the week with a punchy show featuring corporate looks from fashion powerhouses Kate Sylvester,Hailwood, Ruby, Juliette Hogan, Trelise Cooper, Liam, Kneufermann and Adrienne Winkelmann.

Crowd-favourite Trelise Cooper will give the public a taste of her feminine signature style when she opens NZ Fashion Weekend with a Spring/Summer showcase on the Friday evening while the wonderfully colourful WORLD is set to wow the crowds with a much-anticipated show on Saturday evening.

Both NZ Fashion Weekend and the popular Resene Designer Runway shows offer plenty of opportunities for the public to experience the exhilarating buzz of NZFW as well. The Resene Designer Runway shows fall on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday this year and offer an exclusive glimpse at the forward season collections of all designers showing throughout the week while NZ Fashion Weekend features an action-packed schedule of in-season designer shows and fashion and beauty seminars on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August.
