New Head Coach for Auckland Hearts

New Head Coach for Auckland Hearts

Tuesday 2 August 2016

The Auckland Hearts have a new Head Coach at the helm for the upcoming 2016/17 season with Dean Flyger recently announced in the role.

Flyger is no stranger to the Hearts’ setup, having been the Assistant Coach from 2009 to 2013 and was also coach of the Auckland Under 21 and Under 18 sides. Currently he is in charge of the Takapuna Grammar 1st XI Boys side.

Flyger takes over from Elfriede Chooi who successfully guided the Hearts to their second consecutive One Day title last season.

He says he wants to continue the Hearts’ success of recent years, by ensuring the little things are done well.

“As a team we just need to keep doing what we have been doing by looking for innovative ways to keep challenging the team, always raising the bar and working hard.”

Although familiar with several of the players, Flyger admits to having a few nerves coming in.

“[I am] excited and nervous at the same time, it’s new ground for me as Head Coach, we have a good group of players and I hope to add something positive to the setup.”

High Performance Manager Paul MacKinnon says Flyger brings an engaging, bright and positive personality to the role.

“He is very well planned and will bring a lot of structure to the campaign, he is a big believer in the one percenters that add up over time.”

“Dean is always looking for an edge and we feel he is ready to take on the role and do it to the best of his ability.”

The Auckland Hearts will start their One Day and Twenty20 campaigns in late November with the full season schedule still to be officially announced.
