ABBIE releases debut album Lost/Found
August 3 - She’s had a taste of summer music festival life in the UK and now young singer/songwriter ABBIE returns home to New Zealand in time for the release of her debut album, Lost/Found.
The album was recorded earlier this year and released on July 29 under the Waatea Music label out of Auckland and includes seven original songs. The lead track from the album, Million, was released in June.
“I hope that people listening to my music find themselves in a moment, that they relate in some way to the music or a certain lyric grabs them,” says ABBIE.
“I hope that the faster songs break smiles or find people feeling fabulous. For me, music is all about feeling something, having that music support you at the best of times and at the worst of times.”
The seventh track on the new album, called Rerehua, is recorded in te reo Māori and is a collaboration with singer Maaka Fiso, also with Waatea Music.
ABBIE says she’s working towards becoming a seasoned professional in the recording studio and is constantly learning, taking in new information and experiences that have now contributed to the final album product.
“I’d have to say songwriting makes my heart beat a little faster, there is something addictive about finding the right words and making them come alive.
“I feel that I have grown so much as a songwriter and can only continue to do so.”
There are a few songs on the album she thinks people will connect with, although she’s proud of each of the seven tracks.
“I am a sucker for an emotional song. I really love the song, Ships, from the album right now.
“I like where I went with the lyrics on this song and how it makes me feel a certain way every time it plays, especially when played nice and loud.”
ABBIE is “in love” with soul, blues and jazz music, which is apparent when listening to songs she’s released previously. But for Lost/Found, she’s really embraced change and explored a new love for electro-pop with “a soul vocal”.
She’s also explored new song writing styles and notes the collaboration with Maaka Fiso as another addition to her musical portfolio.
“There is so much amazing music in this world and working on different types of music and even in different languages, it is truly good for my soul.”
ABBIE has just returned from performing at the Deebs Day Festival in the UK and has already been invited back to appear at the event in 2017.
Speaking just after her return to New Zealand, ABBIE says she’s looking forward to hear what people think about her new album.
There will be an official release party for Lost/Found in Auckland, followed by various live performances around the city, including at The Portland Public House in Kingsland on August 14.
“I’ll be working towards touring this beautiful country and getting my music out there, meeting other musicians and further developing my songwriting abilities.”
