Hamish Bond Bringing Cheer to Hawke's Bay

The countdown is on to the Makfi Challenge Stakes Daffodil Raceday at Hastings Racecourse this Saturday 27th August.

Olympic Gold medallist Hamish Bond and Women’s Blackstick Anita McLaren (nee Punt) will spend time in a dedicated kids area from 1.30pm and the pair will play off in a series of sporting events.

Hawke’s Bay Racing CEO Andrew Castles says after an incredibly tough few weeks for the region, nothing would give him more pleasure than to put a smile on the face of locals.

“My family, like many others has been affected by the gastro outbreak in Hawke’s Bay. Now that life is returning to normal I’d encourage all parents to bring the kids along for a fun day, out in the fresh air - and the opportunity to meet and interact with these Olympic stars.”

There will be face painting, a bouncy castle, pony club dash and loads more.

Beverage supply company Frucor NZ have donated 1200 bottles of fresh water to be handed out by Bond and Punt on the day. The pair will also spend some time interacting with Cancer Society volunteers in a special ‘High Tea’.

One jockey in each race on the day will carry the Cancer Society colours and every time one of the horses wins the TAB will donate $1,000.

The main race of the day - the Makfi Challenge Stakes will take place at 3.45pm and the Allan Sharrock trained ‘Kawi’ is hoping for back-to-back wins in the Cancer Society silks.

Now in its third year, Daffodil Raceday is a fundraiser for the Hawke’s Bay Cancer Society and entry to the racecourse is by donation.
