The Fast And Furious at Air Tattoo

There will be some very fast aircraft in the skies for the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s 2017 Air Tattoo in February next year.

It has been touted as one of the most exciting events of the summer and now it can be confirmed the Royal Australian Air Force will be bringing three F-18 Hornets, one C17 and one C27 aircraft to RNZAF Base Ohakea for the two-day festival of military aircraft to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the RNZAF.

Other militaries confirmed for the festival are the United States Air Force, Singapore Air Force, Royal Malaysian Air Force and Japan Air Self-Defence Force. They are expected to confirm the aircraft they will be bringing over the next few weeks.

Ohakea Base Commander Group Captain Nick Olney says he is delighted so many militaries want to help celebrate RNZAF’s contribution to New Zealand and the south-west Pacific.

“We value the relationships with our fellow air forces and the response so far shows the mutual respect. The Air Tattoo is shaping up to be a great spectacle for everyone.

“We’re really excited about the RAAF confirmation and while we can’t yet confirm which other aircraft will be attending due to each air force’s operational requirements, I can guarantee the event here at Ohakea will be a sight to remember.

“In an effort to address the traffic issues associated with the last air show at RNZAF Base Ohakea, entry to the event will be by ticket only.”
