Hibiscus Coast Raiders to host Sportsafe ARL Nines in 2017
The Hibiscus Coast Rugby League Club will host the Sportsafe Auckland Rugby League (ARL) Nines in February next year; the first event on the 2017 ARL calendar.
The Nines which are customarily held in Whitianga will be played in Auckland on Saturday February 18, where Auckland Premiership teams will battle for bragging rights and the Nines trophy when they go head to head at Stanmore Bay.
"Hibiscus Coast Rugby League Club are absolutely thrilled to be hosting such a fantastic event," says chairwoman Karen Gibbons.
"Auckland's Stanmore Bay provides an ideal venue that allows players and team staff to involve families."
"We have the fields, clubrooms, playgrounds for the little ones, the beach across the road and a pool next door.
"It's also a great pre-season opportunity for teams to see where they're at with their training," she adds.
The Papakura Sea Eagles won their second Auckland Nines earlier this year - preparation ahead of the SAS Fox Memorial.
The tournament augurs well for the upcoming season, with the Sea Eagles going on to win the Fox Memorial Shield.
"Register your team and come join us on the day," says Gibbons.
"Bring your sportsmanship, enjoy the exciting games, catch up with players from all clubs, let the families enjoy the surroundings and stay for entertainment and food into the evening.
"If all the clubs support, I'm sure the Nines will become an annual pre-season event we all look forward to."
