Kings Breaks Record For Longest Running #1 NZ Single
KINGS, the man responsible for the most infectious tune of 2016, has broken the record of longest-running #1 on the New Zealand Artists Top 20 Singles Chart.
The record was previously held by ‘Magnets’ by Disclosure featuring Lorde and was surpassed by ‘Don’t Worry ‘Bout It’ on Friday, January 13th. The track has now been sitting at the number one spot for an incredible 27 weeks (and counting). Kings entered the chart at #20 in May 2016 before gradually climbing over the following 9 weeks and hitting #1 in July 2016. It has not left the top spot since. ‘Don’t Worry ‘Bout It’ was also the highest Kiwi entry on the 2016 end of year charts at #33.
“There’s no question Kings had the biggest local chart hit of 2016, peaking at #5 on the Official Top40 Singles Chart and spending the entire second half of last year in the chart. It’s a testament to the song’s enduring appeal that in that time no other New Zealand release was able to get past ‘Don’t Worry ‘Bout It’” says Recorded Music NZ Chart Compiler, Paul Kennedy.
KINGS released his, self-titled, debut EP in November last year, after winning Breakthrough Artist of The Year at the 2016 Vodafone NZ Music Awards. His most recent single ‘Some Day’ has received exceptional support and the accompanying NZ On Air funded-video is due to be released shortly.
Over summer, KINGS has been touring with Broods and Theia for ELECTRIC COASTLINE as well as ringing in 2017 as a headliner at RHYTHM AND VINES. He has performed at the ASB Tennis Open, Bay Dreams and will soon be appearing at Homegrown and The Wellington Sevens.
