The
Big Easy Cycle Event gets even bigger in 2017!
Hawke’s Bay’s cycle event “The Big Easy” is to be held again this Easter Weekend with the addition of The Little Easy North in Wairoa.
Now in its fifth year, The Big Easy has grown to include three days of cycling on the regions magnificent trail network. Good Friday sees the return of The Little Easy Central Hawke’s Bay, Easter Saturday sees The Big Easy ride from Havelock North to Church Road Winery in Napier and Easter Sunday sees the first ever Little Easy North in Wairoa.
Developed and implemented by Hawke’s Bay Tourism, Hastings District Council, Napier City Council, and the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council - The Big Easy is the regions signature cycle event developed to profile the Hawke’s Bay Trails. Central Hawke’s Bay District Council got on board in 2014 and now the Wairoa District Council has come on board with the first Little Easy North ride in 2017.
Hawke’s Bay Tourism General Manager Annie Dundas said, “This is our fifth year, the event continues to grow and we are delighted to offer another fabulous ride on the new trails developed by the Wairoa District Council. The event continues to attract a significant number of out of town visitors during a key holiday period”.
The Little Easy Central Hawke’s Bay:
Good Friday April 14 – 12km
Billed as a
“warm up ride” The Little Easy CHB is a gentle 12km loop
along the Central Hawke’s Bay Rotary River Pathways.
Starting at 11:30am from Russell Park, Waipukurau, riders
head off along the northern side of the Tukituki Bridge and
follow the limestone trial, finishing back at Russell Park
for some post-ride entertainment
The Big Easy –
Havelock North Village Green – Church Road Winery –
Easter Sunday April 15 – 45km
The Big Easy is a 45km leisure ride on the flat, mainly off-road Hawke’s Bay Trails starting in at Havelock North Village Green. Riders are encouraged to take as long as they can, stopping at the many attractions and hospitality stops along the way. Registered riders will receive a wrist band that gives them access to hot deals on offer from participating outlets. Riders can also expect plenty of “pop up” surprises along the way. There will be a Family Start from Farndon Park in Clive so families with smaller children can still enjoy the day without too much of a challenge. A concert at Church Road Winery will wrap up the day.
Trudy Hales, CHB Tourism Co-ordinator said she was delighted to have this popular event extend into Central Hawke’s Bay. “We have so much on offer down here in CHB and look forward to welcoming riders here for a great day out”

For the first time - The Little Easy Wairoa, on Easter Sunday will see riders enjoy a 10km cruise along the cycle trails starting at the Wairoa Light house, heading out to Pilots Hill, finishing with entertainment and refreshments for the whole family.
