NZ ‘Best in Fringe’ Nominee Sameena Zehra Returns From UK With Four Outstanding Shows
New Zealand Fringe 2016’s ‘Best in Fringe’ nominee, UK comedian Sameena Zehra is making a much-anticipated return to Aotearoa with four shows, including her critically acclaimed solo comedy show Tea With Terrorists.
“I had such a good time last year” says Zehra, “so instead of coming back with one show I’m coming back with four shows!” Zehra is returning with Blues & Roots singer/songwriter Mike McKeon and collaborating with local comedians James Nokise and Anya Tate-Manning. Whether it is as performer, writer or producer, this ‘one woman powerhouse’ (femalearts.com) is not to be missed!
A self-confessed ‘Fringe nomad’ Zehra has performed regularly since 2011 at Fringe Festivals worldwide from Edinburgh to Dublin, Camden to Adelaide, but feels Wellington Fringe has a unique quality:
“I love it, I loved the audiences. I loved the festival because it was so honest and so artist and performer-led rather than commercially led.”
Zehra is a consummate writer and performer and has a great connection with her audience. Her humour is dark and her mind is absurd. She is a storyteller, political satirist, feminist and humanist with a unique take on the world, equally at home exploring the individual experiences of daily life and the larger issues of the world we live in.
Zehra’s one-woman comedy show Tea With Terrorists will play at BATS Theatre from February 25-28, taking audiences on a journey to find out why fear is redundant, joy is essential, and terrorists can be a real hoot. If you enjoyed last year’s Homicidal Pacifist, you will be enthralled by this rollercoaster ride of storytelling comedy.
‘She tackles the hard topics with ease, wit and charm.’ Art Murmers.
